one of my favorite southern expressions- also “I’m gonna put the fire on you” rather apt considering Dave is the subject of the photo

and just what does that mean?
I lived in the south almost as long as you have and I don’t think I ever heard those charming expressions. Does it mean to “lay a whoopin’ up aside your haid?” I don’t suppose it has anything to do with helping with car repairs….I’m thinkin’ he’s gettin’ ugly with you.
Am I just too much a yankee to understand?

I’ve never heard those sayings, and I’ve been down here awhile, too.

Just a few points of clarification for Dave.
a)he was not threatening to beat the brakes off of me ( actually he was demonstrating the act of putting fire unto someone)
b)He did not come up with the brakes saying, merely overheard it and passed it along
    c) he did come up with “I’m gonna put the fire on you”

I think that clears it up

Also the Brake beating saying was initially overheard at blowout of a football game and as you may have inferred means to win decisively our to put violence unto someone
