“those nice bright colors”

I ran into this story today while checking the interwebs. It kinda bums me out, I know Kodachrome was going away- and I know its a low volume film stock, but I get a pang of nostalgia when I run across a slide that has “the look.” I am so glad they quoted Alex Webb in the lead- if Iooss is the Velvia guy then Webb is the Kodachrome guy.

I was talking to LBC yesterday about her trying to get some negatives printed from BW film she shot of Ben at the 1hr photo and they just didn’t look like a real film to paper print- and she was rather frustrated. This makes me feel the same way.

I may have to take a long lunch break and pop one of my last few rolls of K64 into the Leica and go for a walk.

Listening: There Goes Rhymin’ Simon, Track 1: Kodachrome.

I never had the pleasure of shooting with that film. But I did score a massive collection of B&W Kodax TMax 100. I’ve never shot with the film but want to bust out my camera and take some walks whenever I get off my ass.

That is disappointing. Does this make the film industry like the newspaper industry? Everyone turning away from it in droves, with hardcore fans upset that the old fashioned way has been put to pasture?

Kodachrome is a beautiful stock and it just isn’t the same as Ektachrome or any other emulsion I have found.

@Terica – Tmax 100 is great but best if used with the Tmax developer- if you do and you pull to ISO 50 it is darn near techpan grain.

@Laura – Yes it is much like the newspaper biz but its been going on for longer- and it has a very real chance of going away. I think it will go further away becuase people still have their cameras and photoshop. The alternatives to film aren’t quite as differnt.
