running

July 16th, 2008  |  Published in Photos

well the running isn’t going so well, I haven’t gotten as many in as i was supposed to. It turns out starting the full on intensive running schedule at the beginning of your boss’s two week vacation is a poor decision. Too many assignments and not enough hours in the day. Everyday this week when I have gotten done with work and get a chance to collect my thoughts I come to the realization that - yikes I haven’t eaten today, that my friends is no fun ‘tall.

I have run a bit, here and there but am not keeping detailed records of my mileage. The ankle is acting mildly on the longish runs, so I think I am still in recovery mode :-(

Lets try this again in a few weeks.

For now baby steps, I am planning on eating.

Jazzy TNJ@B

Tuesday night jazz at Blackstone. I managed to sneak over after the run off election. Liz even sang for a couple of sets. The normal TNJ@B crew (just wait that abrv. is gonna be big) was on hand, Brandy, Carol, Dave, Jamie, Jimmy, Liz and Terica were there. Though this time I wasn’t picking out the standards like usual, twas a shame. Speaking of disappointment- no more Rogue Dead Guy Ale. I guess we were the only ones who drank it so Chris went with something lame.

Kayaking on Terrapin Creek

Some of the bike and tri group went with me up to Terrapin Creek to float the river. I say tried because the creek was way down and didn’t have that much water. We did about 8 miles though we only had to get out a few times to carry the boats. I think this would be a lot more fun with another foot of water and if Carmine didn’t have a leaky boat.

chocolate bell pepper

This spring I was regaled about the mysterious and wonderful qualities of the obscure Chocolate Bell Pepper that was a favorite of Cyndi’s. In fact I think I was somehow involved in a secret pact with the Master Gardeners to hide some of the plants so Cyndi could acquire the plants.
So now that it was pepper season I was presented with an early fruit .

It does indeed appear to be chocolate toned, but i decided to give it a little halfway Weston treatment before digging in. Tasting Notes: It tasted much like a red or yellow pepper. Nice and sweet, but it was also very young which could contribute. No chocolate taste so veggie haters everywhere can now go and pout- no easy out on the vegatable front.

running- no excuses

July 11th, 2008  |  Published in Photos

well as many of you know I tweaked my ankle on the BAK Achilles tendonitis or something like that. I tried to do my normal athletic injury regimen of a bit of ice, a handful of ibuprofen and three heaping bucketfuls of suckitupandtoughitout ( or generic.)

This did not work.

So basically I stopped running for a bit to let the ankle get back on board. Now it is hard to get back in to running. It has been everything I can do to get out and run three times this week for a whopping total of 9.3 miles. That said, it is over, the “not running” thing is done. My ankle is feeling fine and I am back to running everyday starting NOW. 5k min each day. Same rules as when I started running seriously but worse. If I miss a day I have to pay it back, double. If I want to run ahead of time that is allowed at the normal 1x rate.

The plan is to do a marathon this fall. 26.22 miles is a long way to run but I am going to do it barring some significant injury. My plan is to post my mileage on here daily, but I need to find a good way of doing it.

So for now I need all of you wonderful blog readers to call me out and hold me accountable. Well not actually, but if you suspect slacking or if I fail to report regularly let me know.

Bike Repair

no not mine, I shot feature of some kids working on some bikes. I really like some of these frames and now I am back looking for another standalone I shot a over a year ago of some differnt kids working on a bike. Yes the kids did the bikes rolling, but they have have gotten a little bit of help afterwards from the neighborhood roadie wielding a hex key set a set of tire levers and the oh so handy floor pump that lives in back of my car.

In the caption I added a note about the winner of that day’s stage in the Tour but the copy editors didn’t approve and nixed it. I even CQ’d Schumacher and Gerolsteiner

Cola War Casualties and the sketchy GT Fridge

The moral of this story is don’t trust the crisper. The crisper lies and will ruin your soda.

This is the GT break room fridge and while I don’t use it for anything other than the occasional lunch leftover holding zone or a place to stash some film ( just kidding this isn’t 1991) many people keep stores of beverages in various hidey holes in the fridge. I swear people are like squirrels and stash sodas forget about them and find them six months later.
back tiothe story, I was sitting at my desk and Cyndi in an oddly concerned voice asked me to bring my camera back to the breakroom. Apparently a stockpile of Sprite asploded in the fridge. In the crisper no less so the ice chips in the crisper, really are soda guts, poor little can of sprite. Also bop over to Cyndi’s blog to hear this story retold much better. [ad#afterpost]
