So as the last class meeting of my OLLI Digital Photography class at the University of Alabama Gadsden Center I took my students out into the field. We had a great day to do it. Even though we had to go during some pretty harsh light we still managed to shoot some nice frames. I took the chance to use my new phone to shoot photos. It was pretty fun and was a lot easier than carrying a whole bag of gear with my bum shoulder. I was recently gifted another Ansel Adams book and I just got a stack of black and white prints back from the lab I was feeling the monochrome. My little camera app has an Ansel Adams filter, and while I don’t profess to be a landscape photographer I enjoyed the exercise. It gave me a chance to see my home turf in a new light.

This whole getting the daylights shocked out of my shoulder twice a week is getting tiresome. I had to channel my Jeremy POWERs (hence the t-shirt) while busting out some LT intervals on the arm bike.

Bamacross Brookside
Guess who has a new toy. A little Craftsman inflator and a Tanaka Presta pump head. A snip here, a hose clamp there and presto the envy of the rest of the folks around. I was able to fill up a friend’s pit bike and blow some Stan’s through a friend’s balky tubular to seal it up. All is well. I’m the envy of the rest of the volunteer mechanics at Bamacross. Woo hoo for cyclocross in Alabama.

So I endured the pain a little and even convinced Carol to come to the second Bamacross race of 2011 in Brookside, Alabama (just outside Birmingham)
The course was similar to last time, but there were a few small changes.
I shot a bunch more photos of the guys from Mellow Mushroom, Cahaba, Bici, BBC and others.

I shot a little bit of film one Thursday Morning with my Leica at our sort of Gadsden First United Methodist Thursday Morning Men’s bible study/groupy coffee drinking thing.
We meet at the Coffee Well across from the Gadsden Times in the Court Street district of Downtown Gadsden. We have several different folks of different ages and walks that join in and everybody’s welcome. I’ll be the guy hurrying over from across the street ordering a large Redeye.
